Currently retired in Vero Beach, Florida, former senior executive Quinton Oswald led influential companies in the development of multiple eye treatments in the medical R&D sector. Quinton Oswald was CEO of Notal Vision, which created a novel method of identifying the transition from dry AMD to wet AMD.
Short for “age-related macular degeneration,” AMD is a serious eye condition that primarily affects older adults. In fact, it is the top cause of central vision loss in senior citizens.
Early detection of AMD is essential to prevent the disorder from progressing from its relatively common and less dangerous dry form to its rarer and extremely serious wet form. After this transition from dry to wet, patients with AMD face a dramatically higher risk of permanent vision loss.
In the words of Harvard Medical School Health Blog contributor Dr. Anthony Joseph, the best way for AMD patients to save their eyesight is through progression control and “early detection of the treatable wet form.” In addition to seeking prompt medical diagnosis and treatment, people with AMD can halt progression by taking actions such as quitting smoking and eating the right foods.
